Preliminary Selection Jury Members

SEO Doeun

She earned a master’s degree and became a PhD candidate in film studies at University Paris 1. She worked at Korean Cultural Center in Paris and became a regular contributor to Culture + Seoul. She joined the Zero Plus Intl. Film Festival as a jury member. Currently, she is the programmer of the Seoul Eco Film Festival.

Suan SEOL

She received an MA in Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths College, Univ. of London. She directed Complicated Order, Kongfu Tea and The Uncomfortable and worked as a programmer at film festivals such as EIDF, SEFF and nemaf. She is now focusing on film production.

LEE Yong Cheol

He is a film critic. His main occupation is to think, write and speak about films. He mainly works for Cine21.

International Competition Jury

YIM Soon-Rye

Born in South Korea, 1960. She served as chairman of the Incheon Film Commission’s steering committee and the head of the Korea Animal Rights Advocates, KARA. She has directed feature films such as Forever the Moment, Little Forest, etc. She has been interested in social search and practice to fight against environmental crises such as climate change as well as promoting animal rights. Recently, she directed her new film Negotiation which will be soon released.

JANG Yeong-Yup

The current editor in chief of the film periodical, Cine 21. She has served as a film judge of various domestic film festivals, including the Jeonju International Film Festival, the Jecheon International Music Film Festival, and the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival. She has also co-authored a book, The Movie People Talking about Movie People.

Marcelo GOMES

Scriptwriter and director born in Recife, Brazil, where he founded a film club. His documentary Waiting for the Carnival was released in the Berlinale and was selected for the masters program of IDFA and won the Special Jury Award in the 17th SEFF in 2020.

Korean Competition Jury

KIM Dong-Hyun

She started her career focused on independent film screening project. She is the current festival director of the Seoul Independent Film Festival. She received a master’s degree from Sungkonghoe University’s Graduate School of Culture and now lectures on independent film screening and distribution at colleges. She produced films Cinema with You and A Midday Picnic. She also participated as a producer in a documentary Jam Docu.

KWAK Yong-Soo

Founded and served as the general director of Cinemathéque Cine Seoul. He co-authored Chronicles of Burning Films, directed The City without a Bird and wrote for EBS’s program Cinema Paradise as a film writer. Currently, he is the CEO of Indiestory Inc an independent film production and distribution company.

Peter O’BRIEN

He is a consultant for filmmakers and festivals focused on strengthening the impact of environmental films. He is a past Executive Director and current board member of the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital.

The 18th SEFF Special Audience Jury

SEFF Special Audience Jury consists of avid advocates of Korean Competition films who go beyond watching the films to directly evaluating the works and encouraging the directors. Also, they watch all the Korean Competition films screened during the festival and play the role of a judge by selecting and awarding the most outstanding film with SEFF Special Audience Jury Award (2,000,000 KRW).
