Under the slogan of “Eco Us, Eco Earth,” the 17th Seoul Eco Film Festival will emphasize that humans are also part of the ecosystem and share the value of coexistence. SEFF will introduce films exploring various environmental issues such as climate crisis, Anthropocene, the ecosystem and animal rights, waste, and natural resources to seek actions for our sustainable earth. Chairman of Organizing Committee of Seoul Eco Film Festival

Welcome to the Seoul Eco Film Festival that makes the Earth sustainable through cinema. The Seoul Eco Film Festival is now celebrating its 18th anniversary. With your continued interest and participation, we have established the Seoul Eco Film Festival as the only environmentally themed film festival in South Korea and the largest environmental film festival in Asia. The Seoul Eco Film Festival has taken the lead in switching to digital mode for our ailing planet due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19. This year’s festival will also be held in an eco-friendly low carbon way to reduce our carbon footprint. I would like to thank all the festival officials, staff, sponsors, and volunteers who have put in effort every year for the festival.

LEE Myung-Se

Festival Director of Seoul Eco Film Festival

How dare you!
You have stolen my dream and my childhood with your empty words.
And yet I’m one of the lucky ones.
People are suffering.
People are dying.
Entire ecosystems are collapsing.
We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.
How dare you!
How dare you!
How dare you!

After the Coronavirus outbreak, our lives cannot be the same as before. Throughout this previously unexperienced suffering, we have seriously pondered our environmental responsibility, which has been leading to small changes in our lives. Companies cannot ignore these changing consumer trends. “Sustainable Development” is thus emerging as an important topic of this era. There are many people who have been calmly dedicated to this change. I am more than aware that the Korea Green Foundation is at the forefront of this sustainable environmental movement and their pioneering work has served as a startling wake-up call. At the moment that mankind has begun to seriously consider the environment and the future, the Seoul Eco Film Festival is celebrating its 18th anniversary. It is my great pleasure and honor to be co-hosting the 18th SEFF. MBC will also do its best to fulfill the precious duties as a public broadcaster with the “2021 No More Plastic” project. I truly appreciate everyone’s effort and commitment to the success of this festival.

OH Se-Hoon

Mayor of Seoul

Congratulations on the opening of the 18th Seoul Eco Film Festival. The record-breaking heatwaves, the longest rainy seasons, and the worst fine dust are threatening citizens’ daily lives and health. The global COVID-19 pandemic is by no means unrelated to the climate crisis. At this time, I expect the Seoul Eco Film Festival to be a meaningful opportunity to seek the coexistence of nature and humans. Seoul City will also actively respond to the climate crisis through eco-friendly transportation, greenhouse gas reduction, and various zerowaste projects. We will make Seoul where future generations can breathe as much as they want. Once again, congratulations on the Seoul Eco Film Festival’s positioning as Asia’s biggest leading environmental film festival with worldwide audiences’ interest. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Korea Green Foundation and all parties concerned who work hard to host the festival safely on these pandemic days. I hope that the 18th Seoul Eco Film Festival would be an important place to publicize the importance of the environment and gather opinions with citizens in our daily life that has been paused due to COVID-19.
